Yes. Coverage varies by plan. It is recommended to contact your insurance provider directly to confirm nutrition benefits. Out-of-network claims can be submitted when applicable.

Insurance Verification of Benefits Guide

Accepted plans include:
Regence Blue Shield, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna*, Kaiser Permanente (Access PPO, Omni PPO, Option PPO)**, United Health Care, First Choice Health, and Cigna (Open Access Plus, PPM & HMO).

*Aetna plans require a physician referral with current diagnosis codes.
**Kaiser Permanente plans may require a referral and prior authorization.

You are out-of-network for my insurance plan. Can I still work with you?

Link to Open the Accordion

Yes. Out-of-network clients are welcome and may use out-of-network benefits depending on their insurance coverage. Refer to the Insurance Verification Benefits Guide to clarify your out-of-net work benefits. Payment is due at the time of service, and a SuperBill can be provided for submission to the insurance company for possible reimbursement. Reimbursement amounts vary by plan, so checking out-of-network benefits in advance is recommended. Any approved reimbursement will be paid directly to the client.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Credit, debit, FSA, HSA, and checks. There will be a $30 charge for all returned checks.

What if your session prices are out of my budget right now?

Link to Open the Accordion

That’s completely understandable—support should feel accessible, not stressful.

If 1:1 sessions aren’t within reach right now, there are flexible, self-paced options that are more budget-friendly. These allow you to begin building clarity and trust with food and your body in a way that fits your current season.

You’re always welcome to step into more personalized support when it feels right.

I don’t live in Washington state - can we still work together?

Link to Open the Accordion

To be eligible to work with Sophia, you must be a resident of a state where she is currently licensed to provide nutrition counseling. At this time, Sophia works with clients located in Arizona, California, Colorado, New Jersey, Virginia, and Washington. A physician referral is required for clients in California before beginning nutrition counseling.

If you don’t see your state listed, Sophia is routinely updating her state licensure and may become eligible to work with you in the future. If you’re interested in working together, you’re welcome to reach out below to request that your state be considered.

Can I use my health insurance for Nutrition Coaching for Parents + Caregivers?

Link to Open the Accordion

Unfortunately, insurance does not cover 1:1 sessions with caregivers, parents, or partners unless it is Family Based Therapy(FBT) with a therapist or treatment facility. This leaves a huge gap in the treatment team care process of recovery for clients and their support community. This offering aims to bridge that gap!

WORKING TOGETHER

Do you offer virtual sessions?

Link to Open the Accordion

Yes. Virtual sessions are available for individuals and caregivers located in Arizona, California, Colorado, New Jersey, Virginia, and Washington.

What do sessions look like?

Link to Open the Accordion

Initial sessions are 90 minutes, giving us time to explore your history with food and body, current symptoms, and goals, and to begin shaping a personalized plan.

Follow-up sessions are 55 minutes and include both a reflective space for nutrition counseling and practical, skills-based support. This may involve nutrition science education, meal planning, and real-life strategies to help integrate changes in a sustainable way.

I’d like to set up an appointment, what do I do next?

Link to Open the Accordion

Let’s Get Started through this contact form and schedule a Connection Call to chat about your goals and challenges with nutrition.

Do I need to bring anything to the first appointment?

Link to Open the Accordion

If you have any labs of concern or a medication list to refer to this can be helpful to bring. Otherwise, just your presence is needed!

How long do people usually work with you?

Link to Open the Accordion

This depends on the purpose of our meeting. Care is personalized to each client and varies based upon your capacity, readiness to change, life circumstances, and many other factors. Often clients benefit from working together for four to six months or longer, depending on medical needs and goals. Initially it is helpful to meet every two weeks to lay down a strong nutrition foundation. Once you feel some ease underneath you, we can start to space out sessions once a month. This typically happens around month three.

What if my situation feels complicated or I’ve tried many things before?

Link to Open the Accordion

You are welcome here. Many people come in feeling like their situation is complex or that nothing has fully helped before. This work is designed to move at a thoughtful pace, honor nuance, and meet you where you are without simplifying or rushing your experience. If you’re unsure whether this approach is the right fit, you’re welcome to request a free connection call through the Get Started form to talk things through and ask any questions you may have.

What if I want weight loss—will you still work with me?

Link to Open the Accordion

That’s very understandable. We live in an image-obsessed culture, and many people have been told, often by the medical system, that weight loss is the fix for just about everything. I’m comfortable holding space for those desires and getting curious about where they come from, because there’s often a lot underneath them.

That said, care at Sage Wisdom Nutrition is weight-inclusive and does not focus on calorie tracking, weighing, or pursuing weight loss. Many clients are relieved to learn there are ways to care for their bodies that don’t involve punishment or shrinking. If you’re unsure whether this approach aligns with what you’re looking for, a complimentary connection call can help clarify whether working together feels like a good fit.

Will you tell me exactly what to eat?

Link to Open the Accordion

Rather than prescribing strict plans, I help you develop skills, awareness, and structure that support nourishment and trust - so eating feels more grounded and less stressful over time. Two week meal plans are not sustainable and rarely capture the personalization and flexibility I like to offer clients.

What if I don’t have an eating disorder or disordered eating? How does this work support me?

Link to Open the Accordion

You don’t need an eating disorder to benefit from this care. My background in eating disorder recovery helps ensure nutrition recommendations support your whole health—without undermining your mental well-being. I’m thoughtful about how guidance lands internally, so care feels supportive, sustainable, and respectful of both body and mind.

What is weight-inclusive care?

Link to Open the Accordion

Weight-inclusive care recognizes that health exists across a wide range of body sizes and often changes over time. Rather than pursuing weight change, this approach supports sustainable nourishment, attunement to body cues, and compassionate care that respects each person’s physiology, history, and everchanging capacity.

What is your cancellation policy?

Link to Open the Accordion
